The article is devoted to the study of risky trends in changing the socio-cultural basis, which may have an im-pact on further civilizational development. The methodological basis of the work is a new expanded interpreta-tion of the socio-cultural basis, which is understood as an integral system generated by society, determined by a set of social and cultural factors, serving, on the one hand, to achieve the good for man and humanity, and on the other – its own preservation and development, regardless of the good for people. The subject of the analy-sis in the article are two groups of risky trends in the socio-cultural basis. The first one combines trends related to the employment of the population: a decrease in the share of workers in the production of material goods, a small proportion engaged in intellectual activities, the emergence and expansion of segments of useless activi-ties. The second group of risk trends unites those related to the structure of the economy: a reduction in the share of industries in which material goods are produced; excessive growth of the financial sector, including the derivatives market.
