Abstract Obesity in pregnancy increase the risk of maternal and fetal complications and weight reduction is of key importance to reduce them. Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment option for weight reduction in people with severe obesity including women of reproductive age, but does prior bariatric surgery ultimately help or harm pregnancy outcomes? In this expert opinion some still unresolved problems in the management of pregnancy after bariatric surgery will be analyzed and discussed.
