In August 2020, a trial excavation was conducted on Ben ‘Amar Street in Ashqelon (Permit No. A-8789; map ref. 157628/619795; Fig. 1), after architectural remains were discovered in trial trenches dug prior to widening the road. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and financed by Ashqelon Municipality, was directed by S. Bloch-Lifshitz, with the assistance of Y. Alamor (administration), E. Aladjem (surveying and drafting), I. Azoulay (plans), D. Varga (pottery), A. Fraiberg (digital documentation), L. Kupershmidt (metallurgical laboratory), L. Sandberg (numismatics) and A. Golani (scientific guidance), as well as S. Ganor, N.S. Paran and E. Bischoff Bruintjes (consultation and guidance).
