Ethical communication is vital to sustaining trust, credibility, and legitimacy in non-profit organizations. This Teaching Paper presents the Ethical Guidelines Checklist, a practical tool designed to help organizations systematically evaluate and strengthen communication practices. Built around five principles—honesty, transparency, respect, fairness, and accountability—the checklist provides a structured framework for policy development, implementation, monitoring, and compliance. Drawing on insights from Bryson, Drucker, and Patton, it bridges theory and practice, equipping organizations with diagnostic and developmental guidance. A case study demonstrates its application in a health NGO in East Africa, showing how systematic use of the checklist improved donor satisfaction and community trust. Reflection questions and practical tips further support adaptation across diverse non-profit contexts.
