A global, systemic approach enables healthcare professionals to support the child's rights. Three articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child support children's participation in medical matters affecting him: The right to Respect the best interest of the child (art. 3), The right to express his or her own views freely and to be heard (art. 12). The right to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health (art. 24). Including the child's opinion in decisions concerning him or her is a complex process, requiring the implementation of programs designed to make the child a player regarding the own health. The aim of this article is to support professionals in applying the Convention on the Rights of the Child in the field of health care, and to support young people's participation in health-related issues.
