Abstract

This study examines the evolution of research on higher education accreditation, addressing the lack of clarity in dominant trends, methodologies, and thematic gaps. Through a systematic literature review using the Web of Science database, 89 relevant articles were identified and classified into input, process, and output categories based on general systems theory. This framework reveals how institutional inputs influence evaluation processes and how outputs affect quality and reputation. The study highlights current challenges and proposes a structured agenda for future research to support evidence-based improvements in accreditation practices.
