Recently, the Mayor of New York City, put forth a proposal to allow for the involuntary commitment of individuals who are a risk to themselves and/or others because of their substance use. Proposals such as these are always followed by self proclaimed “experts” who offer their opinions and yet have never visited the streets to meet the people who will be affected nor have they talked to the providers who will be asked to implement the law!
