The Igbo people of South-eastern Nigeria view spirituality as central to their pursuit of a meaningful and holistic existence, forming the core of their understanding of life’s continuum. This perception is anchored on the people’s cosmology, culture, and religious values embedded in their traditional worldview. There is currently a growing interest among the people to reconnect with their ancestral roots and rediscover the wisdom inherent in their traditional belief systems, which were blurred by their historical experiences. This research explores contemporary Igbo spirituality through an examination of ancestral knowledge, rituals, and beliefs to assess their continued relevance and enduring significance. The study combines the survey design with a qualitative descriptive analysis of documentary data. It employed in-depth interview to elicit insights from respondents who practice traditional spirituality on the revival of ancient practices and its relevance in the contemporary time. The results revealed a deeper understanding of the intersection between tradition and spirituality, highlighting Igbo traditional spirituality as a rich source of ancestral wisdom. It provided insights into relationships between humans, nature, community unity, and overall well-being. This study documents and validates Igbo traditional African spirituality while also contributing to the preservation of indigenous practices in efforts to safeguard and promote Igbo cultural heritage.
