Thinking through citation resolution and proposals for consumer-driven, DOI-like metadata repositories
Key Points
Citation resolution presents significant challenges, particularly in matching linguistic expressions with canonical citation objects.
The analysis emphasizes the need for advanced metadata repositories to enhance citation accuracy and user access to canonical objects.
This work draws from the Jisc Open Monographs Metrics Experiment, an initiative aimed at improving citation practices.
Improving citation resolution methods may lead to better metadata practices within the academic and publishing communities.
Abstract
One of the major challenges that we face in the Jisc Open Monographs Metrics Experiment is in aligning the linguistic expression of a citation with its underlying canonical citation object.
