Aim. To reveal the features of the influence of the Special Military Operation on the all-Russian civil identity. Methodology. The key research method was a secondary analysis of sociological data. An analysis of Russian society’s ideas about civil identity was conducted, and civil movements and organizations conducting socio-political activities were studied in the light of the concept of transformative agency. Results. It has been concluded that the Special Military Operation provided conditions for the emergence of new forms of civil identity. It was shown that grassroots initiative is becoming a driver for the emergence and growth of new institutional structures of civil interaction and assistance to the state. At the same time, the risk of conflict between new institutional structures and government bodies is revealed by virtue of background of the persistent social inequality problem and the demand for reforms. Research implications. Substantiating the relevance of the concept of transformative agency for studying the socio-political transformations of modern Russian society is an implication of the study.
