Introduction: Perinatal asphyxia is the third leading cause of neonatal mortality worldwide behind prematurity and neonatal infection. The objective of this study was to describe the factors associated with perinatal asphyxia at the Saint Louis Regional Hospital. Methodology: This was a retrospective, descriptive study from January 1, 2022 to June 1, 2022 in the neonatology department of the CHR of Saint Louis including all newborns hospitalized for perinatal asphyxia. Results: During the study period, 455 patients were hospitalized in the neonatology department of the CHR of Saint Louis, including 56 perinatal asphyxia, i.e. a hospital prevalence of 12.3%. The sex ratio (M/F) was 1.5 in favour of boys. Multiple pregnancies account for 10.7% of cases. Gestational age was greater than 40 weeks + 6 days in 30 patients (53.6%). The most common obstetric complications were gestational diabetes present in 6 patients (10.7%) and urogenital infection in the 3rd trimester. Age at admission was less than 6 hours in 42 neonates (75%). The outcome was favourable in 36 newborns (64.3%), however 20 newborns died (35.7%) . Conclusion: PA is still a scourge in our neonatal units. Its prognosis depends on several factors. Keywords: Newborn, Asphyxia, Convulsion, Sarnat classification.
