Significance. The issues of improving efficiency of the healthcare system are relevant for all countries of the world. From the point of view of increasing the rational use of resources in the inpatient sector, a promising direction is the organization of medical hotels (boarding houses, hotels) for temporary accommodation of patients who do not require around-the-clock observation in hospital conditions. At present, medical hotels are successfully used in different countries of the world, but there is a limited number of publications summarizing approaches to planning a network of hotels, determining the number of rooms, payment mechanisms for accommodation, as well as benefits of such hotels for patients, medical organizations and the state. Purpose. To analyze and summarize literature data on models of accommodating patients outside hospital wards in medical organizations in order to provide temporary accommodation during treatment and diagnostics. Material and methods. In the course of the work, an analytical review was conducted, 176 publications on the research topic were found. Based on the results of the analysis of titles and abstracts, 143 articles together with duplicates were excluded. 27 publications and 6 electronic resources were selected for further description and systematization of data. Research methods included: systematic, analytical, and content analysis. Results. Fundamentally, there are several models of patient accommodation outside hospital. The first model implies a hotel within the structure of a medical organization, where the patient directly receives medical care. The second model assumes accommodation of patients in third-party hotel complexes, not related to the medical organization. There are several payment mechanisms for medical hotel stays. In the first case, the patient pays for the hotel services, in the second case the costs are covered by the medical organization (including within the framework of construction of its own hotels) or charitable organizations, while the patient does not bear additional costs associated with accommodation. Conclusion. Accommodation of patients in medical hotels has three main groups of advantages: a promising mechanism for cost optimization in the healthcare system; increased access, primarily to specialized medical care for residents of remote areas; and a high level of patient satisfaction due to comfortable conditions of the stay. Keywords: boarding house; medical hotel; hospital hotel; cost optimization in healthcare; hotel services for patients.
