Current issues in teaching the Russian language at a technical university in groups where the state language is the medium of instruction are considered. The authors propose methods and techniques of interactive learning, unconventional approaches to solving educational tasks, and transforming the traditional learning environment in the process of developing communicative competencies. Mastery of these competencies involves the self-development of future specialists, the establishment of their fundamental knowledge and practical experience, and the formation of a personal opinion on a subject or phenomenon within their professional activity. The authors outline the requirements for educators and the correct course of action to achieve high results in fulfilling assigned tasks. Attention is also drawn to the educational value of assignments and to the mutual influence students exert on one another when working in groups. The article presents examples of typical classroom tasks and defines the key principles of group learning
