Abstract Laminar air natural convection in an asymmetrically heated vertical channel with uniform flush-mounted discrete heat sources has been experimentally investigated. The effect of the wall emissivity has also been taken into account. The wall temperature profiles as a function of emissivity, strip heat flux, channel spacing, the number and the arrangement of the strips are presented. Local and overall Nusselt and Rayleigh numbers have been defined and evaluated. They are compared with numerical and experimental data which are available from the literature. The agreement is generally good, except that for local Nusselt numbers at high Rayleigh numbers. Correlations of local Nusselt and Rayleigh numbers are proposed in the 10-106 range of local Rayleigh number.
