Abstract The heartwood of 232 white spruce roots, 6 to 10 inches in diameter, was inoculated with six fungi which commonly cause decay in that species. Resin accumulations in and around the inocula reduced the percentage of infection by Flammula alnicola, Fomes pini, Stereum sanguinolentum , and Polyporus tomentosus var. circinatus ; resin had no effect on P. tomentosus or Coniophora puteana .
