Briefly said, transportation infrastructure is designed to make movements and activities faster and easier. The aim of this paper is to emphasize the liaison, in a true direct proportional relationship, between the transportation domain and the development of the regions. In our case, it’s about the EU regions of NUTS II., basic structure for national development. In fact, we are dealing with the reality that the transports are the support of the economic and social development of economic entities, no matter their size. Transport infrastructure spreads wellbeing wherever it is achieved and it is main support for trade/commerce development our days. The development of rail and, later, road transport became a priority for all European national authorities, who wanted to facilitate trade and mobility of persons and goods in the region and across Europe. The empirical results show that transportation infrastructure has a long-run positive effect on economic development, thus including the other domains of the economic infrastructure. We are focused on the North-East economic region of Romania, not only because we are living and working here, but because we try to support by our analyses and suggestions the development of economic infrastructure of the region, region lagging far behind according to Eurostat Statistics. Improving efficiency across the whole transport system is crucial, in order to make sound transportation systems, for the satisfaction both suppliers and buyers.
