The article summarises the methodological foundations of the course “History of the Ukrainian Language”, and its linguistic and didactic features. It outlines the structure and role of the course in Philology teacher’s professional training. The author reveals the content of“History of the Ukrainian language” as an academic discipline. It defines its aim, objectives, general and professional competencies, and programme outcomes. The article presents the module content and determines the criteria and means of diagnosing learning outcomes. The author describes the methodological features of implementing the programme of “History ofthe Ukrainian language” while Philology teacher’s studying at Oleksandr Dovzhenko Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University. The attention is focused on the fact that the academic discipline “History of the Ukrainian Language” is an important component for forming a nationally conscious, highly developed linguistic personality of a prospective Philology teacher.
