Abstract

A field study entitled "Effect of plant growth regulators on growth and yield attributes of brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) cv. Pusa purple long Under Chhattisgarh plains" was carried out at the Research Cum Instructional Farm, College of Horticulture and Research Station, Saja, Bemetara (C.G.) during the Zaid season of 2024-25. The experiment was designed as a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. Ten treatments involving different plant growth regulators (PGRs) were tested: T0-Control, T1-IAA 25 ppm, T2-IAA 50 ppm, T3-IAA 75 ppm, T4-NAA 25 ppm, T5-NAA 50 ppm, T6-NAA 75 ppm, T7-GA3 25 ppm, T8-GA3 50 ppm and T9-GA3 75 ppm. Growth parameters including plant height, number of leaves per plant, and number of branches per plant, as well as yield attributes such as days to 50% flowering, number of fruits per plant, fruit length, size, weight, and total yield per plot, were recorded and statistically analyzed to determine the effect of PGR treatments. The findings revealed that T9-GA3 75 ppm consistently produced superior growth at all stages. At 30 DAT, plants attained 26.45 cm in height with 24.02 leaves and 5.08 branches; at 60 DAT, 58.19 cm height, 41.17 leaves, 10.36 branches; at 90 DAT, 78.03 cm height, 63.66 leaves, 14.12 branches; and at harvest, 82.52 cm height, 66.07 leaves, and 15.04 branches. Treatments T8-GA3 50 ppm and T7-GA3 25 ppm exhibited comparable results, while the control (T0) showed the lowest growth, with 14.62 cm height, 10.77 leaves, and 6.00 branches at 30 DAT, and 45.61 cm height, 32.11 leaves, and 6.39 branches at harvest. Similarly, yield parameters were maximized under T9-GA3 75 ppm, with 43.66 days to 50% flowering, 33.63 fruits per plant, 26.68 cm fruit length, large fruit size, 90.67 g fruit fresh weight, 3.00 kg yield per plant, and 17.97 kg per plot. Treatments T8 and T7 were statistically similar. The lowest yields were recorded in the control, which had 53.33 days to flowering, 15.08 fruits per plant, 10.10 cm fruit length, medium-sized fruits, 68.67 g fruit fresh weight, 1.04 kg yield per plant, and 6.21 kg per plot.
