The article is an experience of reconstructing the content of the term “derzhavnost’ (statehood)”. The relevance of the research is due to the increased use of the term itself in Russian discourse, but upon closer examination it turns out that it remains meaningless. The novelty of the research lies in the scientific reconstruction of the content of the term “derzhavnost’”, highlighting its main semantic, structural and functional elements. The article is based on an analysis of various sources and an extensive volume of available scientific literature. Modern scientific literature emphasizes the complexity of conceptualizing derzhavnost’, but its main characteristics can be identified: it is associated with statehood, patriotism, a special civilizational status and the protection of the sacred. At the same time, most authors emphasize the nature of derzhavnost’ as the ideological content of the state. The authors propose the following structure of derzhavnost’ — primary elements (meanings, including religious ones; wealth as objective facts that arouse national pride; power), combinations of which make up derivative elements (state with military force, dominance and unity). The study concludes that the actualization of the idea of “derzhavnost’” occurs in times of crisis, in which its cognitive and mobilization significance is manifested.
