Academician M.R. Sapin - Head of the Laboratory of Functional Anatomy of the Research Institute of Human Morphology

Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Mikhail Romanovich Sapin headed the Laboratory of Functional Anatomy of the Research Institute of Human Morphology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences for more than 40 years. M.R. Sapin was not only the scientific director of the laboratory, but also took an active part in the life of the Institute of Human Morphology. He was a member of the Academic Council of the Institute, participated in determining the directions of scientific research of the Institute, participated in determining the fate of the Institute in difficult periods of its existence. For many decades, M.R. Sapin was a member of the Scientific and Methodological Council under the Ministry of Health of the USSR (later the Russian Federation), Chairman of the Problem Commission "Functional Anatomy" of the Scientific Council on Morphology under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS). M.R. Sapin enjoyed great authority among scientists, morphologists from different parts of the Soviet Union, later - the post-Soviet space and neighboring countries came to him for consultation and help. For the morphological community, M.R. Sapin was a real leader. Since 1974, M.R. Sapin has been Deputy Chairman of the All-Union Scientific Society of Anatomists, Histologists, Embryologists, since 1988 he has been the Chairman of this Society, and in 1992 he became the organizer and President of the International Association of Morphologists of the CIS countries, since 2006 he has been the Honorary President of this Association.
