The victory in the Great Patriotic War was a major event not only in the history of Russia, but of all mankind. The Soviet Union defeated the military-political bloc of aggressor countries, led by Nazi Germany. At the international conference “80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War” held on April 22—23, leading foreign and Russian historians and researchers agreed on the significance of this event, paying attention to both the general context and regional aspects of the fight against global evil. The contribution of various peoples and entire theatres of military operations to the overall victory was emphasized, which became a sigh of the departure from the Eurocentric model in the context of the increasingly important factor of the multipolar world. The range of topics covered — from the war economy and human losses to the reflection of the conflict in history textbooks — testifies to the relevance of scholarly reflection on the subsequent Cold War.
