The Role of Toponymy in Geographical Research of the Ichkilik-Kypchak Tribes in the Territory of the Eurasian Region

This study investigates the historical and geographical distribution of the Kyrgyz Ichkilik-Kypchak tribes, which were widely dispersed across the Eurasian region, through the analysis of toponymic evidence. The research explores the origin of these tribes and examines the factors that contributed to their fragmentation and settlement in different regions. Particular attention is given to their historical integration within the Kyrgyz ethnos, their ancient territorial expansion, and the significance of their toponymic markers. Employing a cartographic approach, the study analyzes both the historical and contemporary areas of settlement of the Ichkilik-Kypchak tribes. The research further highlights their present-day distribution across various localities, while also assessing their connections with neighboring ethnic groups and the factors shaping their ethnic identity. In addition, genealogical links with other Turkic peoples are examined, and the current location of the descendants of the Ichkilik-Kypchak tribes is documented, supported by maps and statistical tables.
