Following the international trend for building long span pedestrian bridges as tourist attractions, the Municipality of Sátoraljaújhely in northeastern Hungary had decided to develop their popular adventure park with a new, grandiose element by connecting two hills of the Zemplen Mountains. Their long-awaited dream became true in June 2024, when Zemplen 723 was opened to the public. The new catenary footbridge has 700,0 m span, the longest of its kind in the world at the moment.The article gives a general introduction to the project and aims to present some details of the designed bridge; including the arrangement of the main cables, the applied wind cable system, the steel deck and the stabilizing substructures. The unique construction procedure of the superstructure is also summarized, which required the installation of 149 tonnes of steel cable more than 80 m above the valley.
