Resilience engineering aims to offer strategic preparation and planning of infrastructure to endure disturbing abrupt events and chronic stressors. Resilience engineering aims (i) to propose Strategic planning and preparation for infrastructure to withstand disruptive abrupt events and chronic stressors. (ii) To offer an infrastructure design that enables the absorption of shocks and stresses and the preservation of their functionality. (iii) To enhance the infrastructure recovery ability allowing a swift recuperation from disruptive events and stresses and diminishing downtimes. Finally, (iv) to allow adaptive infrastructure response to threats, enabling it to respond dynamically to emergent threats and incorporate the lessons learned. This article discusses the new challenges generated by the climate change era. It deliberates on the impact of climate change on vulnerabilities and resilience and presents a case study focusing on corrosion and scour impacts.
