Curzon Street No. 2 Viaduct is one of the most complex bridge structures on the UK’s HS2 high speed rail line from London to Birmingham. The paper describes how use of sophisticated digital tools to model and analyse the structure optimised design resistance and hence material economy under service loading. Also described is the development of the highly complicated launching sequence to move the superstructure into place over an existing Network Rail (NR) mainline railway viaduct. Upon completion Curzon Street No. 2 viaduct will be a crucial part of the HS2 infrastructure and a landmark structure that will define Birmingham city centre for future generations.
