A Study on the Integration of Ideological and Political Education into College English Teaching from the POA Perspective

The Production-Oriented Approach (POA) is a pedagogical theory that centers on effective “production” as its ultimate goal, utilizing output as the driving force and input as a scaffold. All teaching activities are designed and organized around this principle. Through its closed-loop process of “Motivating-Enabling-Assessing”, POA transforms language learning into a goal-driven, problem-solving endeavor, ultimately achieving seamless integration of learning and application. Currently, the content and methodology for integrating ideological and political education into College English courses remain relatively monolithic. Furthermore, many universities face the challenge of large class sizes and limited instructional hours. In the classroom, instructors must cover fundamental knowledge while simultaneously conducting skills training, often resulting in a primary focus on linguistic knowledge and skills. Consequently, there is limited capacity for in-depth exploration of ideological and political content. Given the specific characteristics of College English courses, integrating POA with ideological and political education represents an innovative practice. This approach aligns with the fundamental mission of “fostering virtue through education” in contemporary Chinese higher education, offering a promising direction for enhancing the effectiveness and depth of moral education within the language learning context.
