Population Growth and Its Impact on Gross Domestic Product at Market Prices and Per Capita Share of Food in Jordan

The study aims to focus on population factor impact on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at market prices; on one hand and the per capita share of food per year; on the other hand, where the population size represents the independent variable, GDP at market prices represents first dependent variable, and per capita share of food per year indicates the second dependent variable. One of the main findings of the study showed an apparent, significant change in the effect of the independent variable on GDP at market prices, accounting for 97% of the variation. In contrast, the independent variable's impact on the per capita share of food per year on the second dependent variable was not significant, representing only 35%. In comparison, the remaining (65%) was attributed to other factors and reasons explaining this change. Any country that experiences forced migrations from neighboring countries and a large influx of refugees due to wars will suffer from economic challenges in dealing with these numbers of refugees and providing humanitarian services. Jordan is one of the countries that has suffered significant burdens from successive migrations from neighboring countries, such as Palestine, Iraq, and Syria, due to wars. During the study period (2008-2021), the Syrian crisis and migration to Jordan became more apparent, with the notable impact of migration on Jordan's demographic changes. The study recommended several suggestions for policies for decision-makers that include training and developing the workforce, creating a favorable environment for increasing agricultural production, and enhancing food processing, particularly for products that can be produced locally.
