X.2. PechaKucha: Intersectoral collaboration on community-based health promotion: ‘Our Healthy Community’

Abstract Health in all policies, intersectoral collaboration, a systematic and evidence-based approach and interventions based on the needs and wishes of local communities are recommended as core elements in health promotion, yet implementation is often lacking. Furthermore, many health promotion interventions suffer from a short-term perspective and long-term anchoring is not always thought of. Lack of economic and man-power resources is another challenge when working with health promotion, so prioritization is very important. In Denmark, the municipalities have the responsibility for implementing the citizen-oriented health prevention and promotion and many municipalities struggle with the above-mentioned problems. In “Our Healthy Community” we have developed a generic conceptual model to guide municipalities working systematically and target-group oriented with health promotion. The model is evidence-based, response-driven, embedded in the local context and based on co-creation processes at municipal and local level. We have developed the model in two municipalities and tested it in another two, over three years. Participants in the workshop will learn about a systematic approach to health promotion, how to include the civil society and engage as many municipal sectors as possible and how to evaluate such a complex intervention and make it sustainable. We will begin the workshop by setting the scene, highlighting the importance of efficient models that can guide municipalities in working with health promotion. Following the introduction, we will briefly describe the “Our Healthy Community” model for community-based intersectoral collaboration on health promotion in municipalities. One presentation will describe experiences with initial dialogue meetings across all sectors in the municipalities to improve cross sectoral collaboration and anchoring. The next two brief presentations will describe and analyze different cases and learnings from the four municipalities involved. The fourth brief presentation will show results from the evaluation of the model including evaluation of the ripple effects and the continuous engagement of local actors. Finally, we will discuss the overall findings and learnings from working with the model. Participants will be invited to ask questions and participate in the discussion on how to work efficiently with improving health and well-being in communities. Key messages • Learnings from a model on systematic and evidence driven health promotion in a community setting is presented and its effects are evaluated and critically discussed. • The necessity of embracing the local context and responding to local needs in community-based intersectoral collaboration on health promotion is emphasized.
