Abstract The rapid growth of digital technologies has significantly impacted the food processing industry. Ensuring high efficiency, safety, and real-time monitoring has become essential. This paper explores the integration of passive optical networks (PON) into smart food processing systems. With their high bandwidth, low latency, and scalable architecture, PONs enable seamless communication between Internet of things (IoT) devices, sensors, and cloud platforms. The study highlights the benefits, challenges, and architectural design of PONs for food industries, contributing to a future-ready, automated, and sustainable food supply chain.
