Cases with unresolved, complex medical problems are a challenge for the life care planner, particularly in ensuring that accurate future care projections are being made. The referral for the life care plan often comes before the client has achieved maximum recovery. Perhaps the client did not have access to a full course of treatment due to lack of funding or lack of knowledge about care options. Or the course of recovery is so prolonged that a prognosis cannot be made for some time. The life care planner needs to have confidence that the care projections are reasonably accurate and can be defended.
