The article analyzes the systematization of legislation carried out in Russia based on the material of the pre-revolutionary, Soviet and modern stages. The purpose of the article is to identify common features characteristic of the systematization of Russian legislation from different eras, as well as features that determine each stage of the development of the Russian state and society. The descriptive method made it possible to describe the main research directions in the field of systematization of Russian legislation. Using the chronological method, the sequence of the systematization of legislation carried out in the Russian Empire, the RSFSR, the USSR and the Russian Federation is established. The formal legal method is applied in the analysis of the content of normative legal acts of different years, which set the task of systematization of Russian legislation or were its result. The diachronic cross-section within the framework of the comparative legal method was used to identify those features that arose in the process of systematization of legislation in different eras, and the synchronous cross-section helped to identify common and distinctive features in the position of the state in relation to legal regulation in different regions of the country. As a result, special aspects and common features of the systematization of Russian legislation in various epochs have been identified, in particular, the recognition of incorporation and codification as the main forms of systematization, diversity in assessments of the independence of consolidation, sectoral and intersectoral codifications, and the government’s refusal to widely publish the results of the systematization of church law, and later legislation regulating the activities of religious organizations. organizations. It is concluded that the modern process of systematization of legislation has absorbed all the best that existed in the pre-revolutionary and Soviet periods, but only at the present stage has systematization become a constant, purposeful work aimed at improving legislation, its system, as well as eliminating gaps and contradictions.
