Effective communication is vital for successful construction projects, ensuring stakeholders are well-informed, aligned, and collaborate effectively. However, communication gaps often arise, leading to inefficiencies, delays, and cost overruns. This study evaluates key factors affecting communication effectiveness in construction projects. A literature review and survey of 110 construction professionals identified 30 communication attributes. Factor analysis extracted seven communication factors: communication and planning deficiencies, operational and supervisory challenges, leadership and technological gaps, stakeholder and team diversity, behavioral and contractual barriers, commitment and prioritization issues, and project complexity. Fuzzy synthetic evaluation results revealed that ‘communication and planning deficiencies’ and ‘operational and supervisory challenges’ are the most critical factors, significantly impacting communication effectiveness in the construction project. The study offers insights into the key drivers of communication gaps. It emphasizes the need for robust communication strategies, detailed planning, and better supervision to mitigate risks, boost collaboration and productivity, reduce rework, and improve project outcomes.
