ABSTRACT A new plant species, Lobelia mayodiyensis , is here formally described from the Lower Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh, India. This annual herb, growing up to 50 cm tall, is distinguished by its reddish‐purple, hairy stem and bluish‐violet flowers with a bilabiate corolla bearing white hairs on the lobes and a staminal tube with the lower 2 anthers barbate. The species differs from its Indian relatives by a unique combination of floral and ecological traits. Currently, this species is known to exist only at Mayodiya Pass, where it thrives on moist, shaded mountain slopes above 2640 m. Its discovery highlights the significant yet underexplored biodiversity of the Eastern Himalayas. Due to its limited known population and distribution, the species has been designated as Data Deficient (DD) by the IUCN, underscoring the urgent need for further botanical surveys and habitat preservation in the region.
