Erythema multiforme is an acute immunologically mediated condition that presents with mucocutaneous lesions. The term reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption (RIME) has recently been used to describe mucocutaneous eruptions following respiratory infection. RIME is reported most frequently in children and adolescents, and generally presents with involvement of the mucous membranes, particularly the oral mucosa, with minimal or no skin involvement. This article presents four paediatric patients who presented with mucocutaneous eruptions to the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow, and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh, over a 5-month period, with discussion regarding the management of such patients. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Many patients with erythema multiforme have oral lesions and may seek advice from their general dental practitioner.
