We present new high-resolution radio continuum images of the Circinus galaxy at 13 and 20 cm obtained with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. Peculiar radio lobes orthogonal to the galactic plane have been resolved into features resembling a bisymmetric plume component feeding the lobes and shocked, edge-brightened regions delineating the galaxy against the intergalactic medium. For the first time, polarized radio emission from these radio lobes has been detected and mapped. The lobes, particularly the northern one, are polarized along the plume and edge regions (up to 45 per cent). Extensive depolarization is occurring at 20 cm implying ionized gas in front of or within the lobes. The spectral index of the core is α = − 0.42 (S ~ vα).
