The demolition integrated recording was required because six of the non-designated buildings at Bucks Head Farm (Buildings 1 to 6) were being demolished and because further investigation and recording of the buildings further addressed Specific Objectives in the GWSI: HERDS. The aims of the demolition integrated recording were to: " Enhance the previous programme of investigation at Bucks Head Farm by recording previously hidden fabric which will be exposed by the soft strip/demolition works; " Develop understanding of the site by identifying elements of particular architectural or historic significance; " Identify the extent of survival of the original buildings depicted on cartographic sources and understand the Site's development explaining the relationship between each of the buildings, their functioning as an agricultural complex and identify if any process flow existed or exists; " Assess the potential for dendrochronology works at the site and if appropriate undertake the sampling; " Contribute to the delivery of GWSI: HERDS Specific Objectives. Through delivery of the aims above the programme of works created knowledge and outputs that contribute to the following specific objectives: " KC52: Understanding the pattern, from and function of post-medieval rural vernacular architecture: can we identify regional, intra-regional or temporal variations? The recording methodology was set out in the Location Specific Written Scheme of Investigation and the Method Statement. Recording was undertaken in accordance with Historic England's guidance for the recording of historic buildings in Understanding Historic Buildings: A Guide to Good Recording Practice (Historic England, 2016). HS2 technical standards were also adhered to during the recording exercise including the Technical Standard Specification for historic environment investigations (Doc No: HS2-HS2-STD-000-000035). The LS-WSI (Doc. No. 1EW04-LMJ-EV-MST-NS06NL16-029008) and the Method Statement (Doc. no: 1EW04-LMJDJV-EV-MST-NS06NL16-029004) also set out that the final report, alongside the collation of archive material, would include: " A description and illustration of the buildings' location and their setting. " An overview of previous works. " The topography of the Site. " Specific objectives and methodology. " Results of historic building recording. " Assessment and interpretation of results against original expectations. Recording Methodology Photographic Survey - The photographic survey was undertaken on the 18th October 2022 following the soft strip of the building and subsequently on the 26th to 28th and 31st October 2022 during the demolition of Buildings 1 to 6. Following the soft strip of Buildings 1 to 6 it was concluded that only Buildings 1 and 2 had potential for further and fabric to be revealed during demolition and therefore the photographic recording during demolition focussed predominantly on Buildings 1 and 2. An additional visit was carried out on 13 December 2022 to record a brick well exposed following the removal of a concrete slab within the farmhouse. The photographic survey was carried out using high quality digital cameras and a 1m ranging pole was included within each Plate when appropriate. A selection of photographs has been chosen to accompany the written description of the buildings, the locations of which are depicted on Figures in Appendix B. Drawn Record - A measured survey of the buildings was undertaken during the initial programme of recording to produce fully dimensioned plans of all floors, elevations and locations of structural or ornamental features of historic significance for Buildings 1 to 6 which were recorded to Level 3 standards.
