Background: Ayurveda is one of the oldest systematic sciences, deeply rooted in philosophical principles and a rich healing tradition. Numerous classical formulations are widely used by Ayurvedic practitioners in daily practice, though their mechanisms of action remain insufficiently explored. Lavangadi Vati is one such classical multi-drug herbal formulation commonly used in Ayurveda. Lavangadi Vati is a classical Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation widely used in routine clinical practice. Despite its frequent therapeutic application, a systematic understanding of its pharmacodynamic behavior remains largely conceptual. The present article attempts to explore the therapeutic mechanisms of Lavangadi Vati based on fundamental Ayurvedic principles. The pharmacological action of the formulation is explained through Panchamahabhuta theory, Tridosha doctrine, and Rasadi Panchaka, including Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka, and Prabhava. The collective influence of these factors governs Dosha shamana, Dhatu homeostasis, and maintenance of health, with therapeutic dominance determined by the Tara–Tama principle. Prabhava is considered to explain the specific actions not attributable to other factors. This conceptual exploration aims to provide a rational Ayurvedic framework for understanding the pharmacodynamics of Lavangadi Vati, thereby supporting its traditional clinical use and encouraging further scientific evaluation.
