The major objective of this study is to promote awareness about the contemporary concepts of 3D printingand sustainability among high school teachers for integration in their education. The intent is bridge the gapbetween high school and university educational environments to allow for successful transition and clearvision about the choice of the university major knowing that 3D printing and sustainability concepts aremajor pillars in almost every engineering major, especially civil engineering. Such concepts can beimplemented using a project-based learning style conducted to improve the students’ creativity, criticalthinking, analytical skills, and team work. In order to accomplish this, the study is planned to address twokey issues: 1) the teachers’ extent of awareness and understanding of the 3D printing technology and itspotential role in sustainability education in K–12 classrooms, and 2) the extent of the teachers’ attitudes,perceived barriers, and challenges influence integration of 3D printing into sustainability education. Forthat, a survey was conducted to collect data from the study sample, consisting of current and pre-serviceteachers enrolled in post-graduate professional diploma in teaching. The survey domains explored theteachers’ knowledge about 3D printing and sustainability, attitudes toward 3D printing and sustainabilityin education, perceived barriers to use 3D printing in schools, and professional development and supportneeds. Statistical analysis will be utilized to evaluate the survey results and to allow for drawing quantifieddiscussion and conclusion. This study seeks to inform professional development initiatives and educationalpolicies that support sustainable teaching practices.
