The combination of sports and education has emerged as a crucial strategic path for nurturing competitive sports talents. At its heart is the promotion of a profound integration between sports and education, along with the establishment of a training framework that not only zeroes in on enhancing competitive capabilities but also takes into consideration the all - round development of students. This article takes the integration of sports and education as a perspective to explore in depth the educational empowerment and transformational development path of cultivating competitive sports talents. Studies indicate that blending sports with education can significantly enhance the way resources are distributed, while also boosting students’ overall development and fostering a harmonious relationship between athletics and academics. This article delves into the state of talent development in competitive sports within this integrated framework, highlighting key challenges such as flawed systems, imbalanced resource distribution, and inadequate career support. By examining these issues, the piece sheds light on the hurdles faced in implementing current policies effectively. In response to these issues, this article proposes specific optimization paths, including building a cross-border collaboration mechanism to promote departmental linkage, strengthening the sharing and integration of sports and education resources, improving career development plans to ensure the long-term development of athletes, and strengthening psychological health support to alleviate students’ training and academic pressure. Through the exploration and practice of these paths, theoretical references and practical guidance can be provided for the high-quality development of competitive sports talent cultivation in China, and new impetus can be injected into the construction of a sports powerhouse.
