The Avala Tower represents one of the most prominent symbols of Belgrade. The area upon which it was built is a famous picnic spot and, above all, a historically important place. Insufficient attention has been paid to date to this significant, both architecturally and structurally challenging, construction in architectural historiography, with the key source for studying its construction being archival material, i.e. the documentation on the construction deposited in the Historical Archives of Belgrade. In addition to this source, the construction flow can be fully monitored through the study of library material, in the form of newspaper articles, primarily from the Borba daily. The Avala Tower has only been sporadically written about in the scope of highlighting the works of the major architects responsible for its design, Uglješa Bogunović and Slobodan Janjić. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to shed new light, as a contribution to architectural historiography, on the topic of the construction of the first TV tower on Avala, at that time the beacon of Belgrade and a significant architectural undertaking by a fruitful architectural team.
