This record presents Glyphstream as a Formal Encoding, a method-level specification defining Glyphstream as a non-semantic, non-autonomous structural encoding for continuity preservation across interrupted sessions, workflows, and systems. Glyphstream addresses a common structural problem: narrative summaries preserve meaning but distort structure, while raw logs preserve detail without enabling reconstruction. Glyphstream preserves structural topology only, encoding workflow paths, decision branches, constraints, and invariants while explicitly excluding meaning, interpretation, behaviour, inference, memory, learning, or autonomy. This publication formalises Glyphstream as a machine-readable encoding, specifying: a closed category schema and structural primitives, deterministic reconstruction constraints, reference serialisation formats (JSON and YAML), an optional human-authored grammar layer (DSL), a graph representation for lossless topology preservation, bounded and controlled use cases, and explicit non-goals and safety boundaries. The specification is intentionally tool-, platform-, and model-neutral. Glyphstream is defined strictly as a continuity artefact, not a system component. It does not execute, decide, or evolve. Any interpretation or reconstruction occurs entirely outside the encoding. This record complements the previously published Glyphstream protocol paper by translating the protocol into a formal encoding suitable for review, validation, and constrained application, without reintroducing conceptual motivation or expanding scope.
