ABSTRACT Multicomponent convergent approaches provide feasible access to novel and complex heterocyclic frameworks. These strategies offer highly selective, pure, and diversely functionalized compounds in shorter reaction times starting from a variety of reagents and thus are strongly endorsed by synthetic chemists. Among various reagents taking part in MCR pathways, azides act as pivotal constituents in several multicomponent reactions i.e., Huisgen azide‐alkyne cycloaddition, Ugi‐azide, and Passerini‐azide reactions, etc. to provide different heterocycles especially, imidazoles, triazoles, and tetrazoles. The products obtained from azide‐based MCRs exhibit wide applications in the biological field, material, and medical science, etc. This article provides a recent update on the developments regarding the azide‐based multicomponent approaches for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds reported post 2018.
