Abstract: In this “Author Meets Critics” session Marcia Chatelain discusses some of the key lessons from her book, Franchise . Panelists cover a variety of topics, including how the McDonald’s franchise system both fueled and limited Black entrepreneurship, the role of McDonald’s storeowners in protest activities during the 1960s and ‘70s, the growth of food deserts in urban communities, and the role of Black consumers in supporting the growth of the McDonald’s corporation.
