The 21st century has created a new concept, “digital literacy”, and this idea is of much concern to researchers globally. Today, we are in a society where technology is rapidly advancing, and we cannot claim not to be aware of its potential effects. Technologies determine most of human activities, and have become a part of everyday life, changing the way humans work, organize, communicate, and even relate with others at both the state and international levels; therefore, this has necessitated a new concept of digital literacy that emerged in modern times. Consequently, the overall purpose of this paper is to raise digital awareness, let the public or the uninformed citizen in a rapidly emerging technological age be abreast of the need to be digitally literate to cope with the present realities, especially in Nigeria, through a systematic review of academic literature on the topic. The second purpose is to create digital literacy awareness, where Nigerians will possess the knowledge, skills, and confidence to flourish in the digital world. Additionally, the paper will have an in-depth review of the benefits and challenges of creating digital literacy awareness in the present-day society. Besides, the researchers will consider not failing to make suggestions or recommendations where appropriate for effective digital literacy awareness in a technology-driven society.
