Abstract Background Patients with schizophrenia often experience social withdrawal and impaired psychological function, while intangible cultural heritage activities combine interactivity and cultural immersion, providing support for interventions for this type of disease. The aim is to explore the promoting effect of intangible cultural heritage intervention on the social skills and psychological recovery of patients with emotional disorders, in order to provide effective means for the treatment of patients with schizophrenia. Methods This study selected 60 patients with emotional disorders who met the diagnostic and statistical criteria for mental disorders, and randomly divided them into an intervention group (intangible cultural heritage activity group) and a control group (conventional rehabilitation group), with 30 patients in each group. Experimental steps: the control group received routine psychological counseling twice a week, and the intervention group participated in intangible cultural heritage activities twice a week (alternating Paper Cuttings and embroidery) on this basis, 90 minutes each time, and the intervention period was 12 weeks. Evaluation criteria: 1. Social skills are assessed using the Social Skills Rating System (SSRS), which includes three dimensions: proactive communication (0-20 points), communication expression (0-20 points), and cooperative ability (0-20 points), with a total score of 0-60 points. The higher the score, the stronger the social skills; 2. Psychological recovery adopts the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), with a total score of 0-72 points. Data statistics were conducted using SPSS 26.0, with independent sample t-test used for inter group comparisons and paired t-test used for intra group comparisons. Results According to the intervention test in Table 1, the intervention group scored better than the control group in all aspects after the intervention. For example, in active communication, the intervention group and the control group scored 15.6 ± 2.8 and 9.2 ± 2.3, respectively (p.001). In addition, in the total SSRS score, the intervention group still scored the highest at 48.7 ± 6.2, significantly better than the control group (p.001). Discussion The test results indicate that intervention in intangible cultural heritage activities can significantly enhance the social skills and psychological resilience of patients with emotional disorders. Intangible cultural heritage activities provide patients with a safe social practice platform through manual collaboration, cultural exchange, and other scenarios, promoting active communication and expression skills improvement; In addition, the enhancement of value recognition brought by cultural inheritance helps cultivate resilience and optimism. It can be seen that intangible cultural heritage activities can enhance the social skills and mental health of patients with schizophrenia, thereby improving their symptoms. In the future, research can expand the sample size, explore the intervention differences of different types of intangible cultural heritage activities, and provide more effective treatment plans for such patients.
