Since 2023, the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic has been working on a curriculum reform for primary schools. The reform concerns the content and organization of education in primary schools. The research presented in the article deals with the preparedness of teachers in the educational area of Man and the World of Work for this reform. The research was carried out using a questionnaire for teachers. We looked at how they evaluate their professional competencies to teach new thematic units, which are the content of the educational area of Man and the World of Work within the framework of the reform of the primary school curriculum. By analyzing the data acquired from the evaluation of 462 questionnaires, we found that teachers evaluate their competence to teach the thematic units, which have been the content of the educational area up until now, as good. Teachers evaluate the competence to teach some of the new thematic units, which are the content of the new components of the educational area, as weaker. For successful implementation of the reform, support must be provided to teachers in the educational area of Man and the World of Work, especially to those teachers who lack the qualification to teach.
