This study combines Nineteenth century Vedic philosophies and modern-day approaches in developing paradigms to resolve environmental issues, aimed at achieving an ideal "Bharat 2047". It uses two ancient philosophies, namely Rta (cosmic order) and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), to draw a "Traditional Environmental Ethic" and juxtaposes this with the current Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It integrates ancient and modern methodologies to address some of the most critical environmental issues facing India today, such as climate change, water scarcity and loss of biodiversity. It critiques Environmental Law and Policy to determine the policy gap and suggests ethically and culturally congruent approaches to improve voluntary compliance. Juxtaposing revised and modern Vedic philosophies with Environmental Science to construct a paradigm, this approach innovatively detours from business as usual and embraces a new paradigm of growth where environmental and ecological values fundamental to human life and civilisation are preserved. The study proposes a right national policy comprising of lived traditions and modern practices in order to make environmental harmony the foundation to build an economically prosperous India.
