ABSTRACT Myopia measurements at different periods of time after the removal of contact lenses have been analyzed. Vertical myopia measurements followed a different pattern of variation than horizontal myopia measurements. The mean decrease in vertical myopia was 0.98 D the first day followed by mean increases until 21 days. Some individuals showed progressive decreases for three to seven days. The extent and duration of myopia changes were found to be directly related to the number of years contact lenses had been worn. Mean astigmatism increased in with‐the‐rule astigmatism from 0 to 3 days. Both the vertical and horizontal variations were smaller for individuals who more contact lenses less than all waking hours, and considerably less variation was found during that second test period, after contract lenses were worn for 60 days.
