ABSTRACT The military offers a model for a service system involving the delivery of vision care by optometrists to a selected population. This study describes this system for the United States Air Force in terms of population served, services performed, responsibilities, related personnel, and lines of authority and communication. In the developing reorganization of the public health delivery system studies of this nature are essential to the planning process for the profession.
