This paper reviews the discovery of the J particle and examines its impact on high-energy physics in China. Charm physics emerged as the primary research focus of the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPC/BES) and its upgraded successor, BEPCII/BESIII. Through its remarkable achievements in experimental charm physics, BEPC has remained a vital and enduring facility in its energy region. Following the success of BEPC, the non-accelerator physics experiments and the large multidisciplinary scientific facilities in China have rapidly developed, yielding many significant results.
